How to vote

  1. Join the Metagov Discord (https://discord.gg/psSqZqBN) and go to the #daostar-one channel. Ping @Josh, who will assign you a role corresponding to your organization.
  2. Use the emoji corresponding to your organization to vote “Yes”. To any vote. E.g. :aragon: if you belong to Aragon.
  3. If you’re not part of an organization, just use 👍 or 👎 to register sentiment.

Caveats

For now, these are just sentiment checks. We’ll come up with quorum and “pass” rules at our next meeting.

Who gets to vote

If you represent an organization, and your organization is listed on the roundtable page at daostar.one, then you get to vote.

An organization preserves its voting rights if its representatives attend DAO1 roundtable meetings. **If no representative of an organization shows up for two consecutive DAO1 roundtable meetings, then the organization loses it voting rights (we will lock the emoji).**

There is a maximum of 50 custom emojis per Discord server, so there is a maximum of 50 voting organizations in DAOstar One. “Sapir-Whorf with Discord constraints.” - Wayne Chang, Spruce

Goals

To set up a minimal system for ratifying (or not ratifying) the standard, and to allow more asynchronous decision-making by the roundtable participants.

In specifying this voting system, we wanted to focus on fostering social coherence among the DAOstar One participants and within the larger DAO ecosystem, as opposed to simply answering questions or gathering polling information. We believe this community of people presents an opportunity for collective action within the larger DAO ecosystem. This voting system is one mechanism for fostering that community.

Implementation

Ivan mentioned using a POAP token. We agreed that starting a ERC-20 token, at this stage, would be too much. Josh mentioned that, eventually, we could build a subgraph of DAOs, especially once the standard is in place. Kei had the idea of using emoji voting in Discord, where every participant in DAOstar could vote using their own organization's emoji (which could be made accessible via a role).

Risks

Kei mentioned that there may be an incentive issue with participation, since most engagement with Snapshot usually centers around token decisions and we do not want to start a token yet. Further, if we set up such a system, we would want to make sure that participants don't get spammed by not-useful questions.
